Jan & Feb 2018 – Lapwing, Redpolls and a Newt

LAPWING

A good flock of around 20 lapwing have been seen regularly in fields on the west side of the main road over the past couple of months.  In previous years there has been a lapwing roost on the Moneystone Quarry site on the settling pond on the north side of Eaves Lane, but Laver Leisure development works may have disturbed them.

REDPOLL

A group of about 20 redpoll have been visiting feeders on Black Lane in February.  Photos by Ivan Kent.

Unusual sighting of a newt on a garden wall at Whiston Eaves Lane by Julie Bennett on 19 February, when newts are habitually hibernating.  It looks like it was a warm sunny day.  The newt had not looked at the weather forecast.
