April 2018 – damp cold late start to spring

A damp cold month delaying the start to spring.  The heron has been a regular visitor to ponds in the village and the first sightings of frog spawn have been noted.  A Mallard egg was layed on the edge of a pond off Black Lane but disappeared shortly afterwards.  Winter visiting Redpolls were present on garden feeders in good numbers throughout the month, along with the odd Brambling and ample groups of long tailed tits.

Droppings suggest hedgehogs have come out of hibernation.

Tree removal from the potential building site on the steep bank between the main road and the new Copper Mill Close housing development has unfortunately removed valuable bird habitat.
